Call for Aboriginal Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Board Members

NT Government

Expressions of Interest (EOI) are now open for the Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence (DFSV) Aboriginal Advisory Board.

Sadly, Aboriginal women and children in the Territory experience disproportionate rates of frequent and severe violence, with Aboriginal women in the NT 40 times more likely to be hospitalised as a result of domestic, family and sexual violence.

This is why we need to elevate Aboriginal voices and empower Aboriginal people to make decisions that impact them and their communities.

The Aboriginal Advisory Board will report directly to the Minister for the Prevention of DFSV and provide advice and information to improve the prevention of, and response to, DFSV as it impacts upon Aboriginal people and communities.

The establishment of the DFSV Aboriginal Advisory Board is a priority action informed by stakeholders through the DFSV Framework’s Action Plan consultations and will be facilitated by the Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Interagency Coordination and Reform Office (DFSV ICRO).

Aboriginal people and communities across the Northern Territory (NT) have consistently identified the enormous impact of DFSV on their lives and wellbeing, and especially on Aboriginal women and children.

The EOIs open on 24 October 2022 and will close on 11 November 2022.
