Call for ecotourism proposals for Wellington National Park

  • Registrations of interest open for Wellington National Park ecotourism proposals
  • Part of the $10 million Collie Adventure Trails initiative
  • The McGowan Government is calling for private sector proposals to develop ecotourism and adventure activities in Wellington National Park near Collie.

The initiative is part of the $10 million Collie Adventure Trails initiative to establish Collie as a premier trail adventure town.

Applications that will be considered as part of the competitive process include but are not limited to zip lines, high rope courses, facilities and services in the national park to support visitor trail use, and low-impact accommodation.

The Parks and Wildlife Service at the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions is calling on commercial operators to register their interest before December 3, 2020. Following this, suitable applicants will be invited to submit detailed proposals.

As stated by Environment Minister Stephen Dawson:

“The McGowan Government has been working hard to facilitate more commercial nature-based tourism developments across WA, to encourage visitors to experience national parks and reserves in innovative and exciting ways and stimulate local economies.

“The Premier recently announced a $150 million WA Recovery Plan investment to support our tourism sector as it manages the impacts of COVID-19, and we encourage people to ‘wander out yonder’ and explore the many nature-based activities WA has to offer.

“Wellington National Park is set to expand under the Plan for Our Parks initiative, so it is fitting that we enhance sustainable, accessible nature-based activities within the park.”

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister and Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray:

“Thanks to the McGowan Government’s $10 million Collie Adventure Trails initiative, Wellington National Park is fast becoming a mountain bike trail and walk trail centre.

“We want to encourage people to not just pass through the park, but spend significant time there recreating and then support the local towns and businesses around it.

“This Government is working to ensure a brighter future for the people of Collie-Preston by creating a recreation and conservation hotspot, boosting regional tourism and creating jobs alongside existing adventure start-ups already in progress.”
