Call in for Recycling Park considered

Deputy Premier, Minister for State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning and Minister Assisting the Premier on Olympics Infrastructure The Honourable Dr Steven Miles

The Planning Minister has given notice of a proposed call in for the Wanless Recycling Park at Ebenezer.

Deputy Premier, Minister for Planning, Steven Miles, said calling in the project would allow the state to do an assessment of the project including its ability to support Queensland’s waste reduction and recycling objectives.

“A call in would require state agencies to do a thorough evaluation of the project,” Mr Miles said.

“The call in process will require Wanless to demonstrate its facility will support the state’s goal of reducing waste to landfill and increasing reuse and recycling and that the project can only be economically viable if all elements of the facility are approved.”

The proposed call-in would allow the project to be considered in light of the:

• Council of Mayors SEQ Waste Management Plan 2021

• Finalisation of the review of the waste levy

• Ipswich City Council’s request for a temporary local planning instrument (TLPI).

Mr Miles said that the government was committed to ensuring transport infrastructure in the area is suitable.

Planning work to upgrade the Amberley Intersection (Cunningham Highway/Ipswich Rosewood Road) is underway. The Department of Transport and Main Roads expects to complete work on the $1.65 million Planning and Business Case Development next year.

“This intersection upgrade remains a high priority for the Queensland Government and we will be making a strong case to the Commonwealth for funding once this planning work is completed.”

Interested parties can make representations regarding the proposed call in until 21 December 2021.
