Logan Water is urging residents to do their bit to conserve water as summer approaches.

Bulk water provider Seqwater has increased production at the Gold Coast Desalination plant to keep the South-East Queensland’s dams topped up after the combined level fell to 60 per cent.

Infrastructure Committee Chairperson Teresa Lane said residents have been doing a good job of keeping water use down but it is time to step up our efforts.

“There are simple things we can all do that make a big difference,” Cr Lane said.

“Checking your household plumbing for leaks, taking shorter showers and not watering in the heat of the day are ways you can help.

“Logan residents have a great track record of preserving water so it’s important we keep that up, especially as the weather warms up.”

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a wetter than average summer and water restrictions won’t be considered until the combined dam level falls to 50 per cent.

“But that is no reason for complacency,” Cr Lane said.

“Water restrictions can have a big impact on our lifestyles so it’s important we do everything we can to prevent them from being necessary.”

Seqwater recommends a daily usage limit of 150 litres per day/per person.

To play its part, Council has created a dedicated drought management team responsible for ensuring we are as water efficient as possible, as both a provider and user of drinking water.

Council also regularly inspects its network of water supply mains, pump stations and reservoirs for any leaks.
