Eleven year old Campbell Baldacchino, recently raised more than $4000 for Cancer Council WA after shaving off his mullet that took 12 months to grow. Campbell decided to shave his mullet to show support to a close family friend who had been recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
Campbell’s mother, Kylie Baldacchino said they were so proud of their son and so grateful to everyone who supported him.
“About a month ago our beautiful friend Nicole, aged 40, was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has undergone a double mastectomy and has since found out that she will be undergoing chemotherapy,” Mrs Baldacchino said.
“When Campbell found out Nicole would lose her hair following the chemotherapy he decided to shave his mullet that had taken a year to grow to raise money for cancer support.
“We set a goal of $500 for Cancer Council WA, but in just 10 days we raised $4104.
“We have been absolutely blown away with people’s generosity, especially in these uncertain times.”

Cancer Council WA Cancer Information and Support Services Director, Melanie Marsh, congratulated Campbell on his outstanding fundraising efforts, highlighting how critical it was to continue support those living with cancer during these challenging times.
“We are incredibly grateful to Campbell for supporting Cancer Council WA and his dear family friend Nicole during this time of uncertainty,” Ms Marsh said.
“Many cancer patients and survivors are currently at their most vulnerable amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The current uncertainty and risk of the COVID-19 pandemic creates additional stress for the 33 Western Australians that are still receiving a cancer diagnosis each day.
“They join 87,000 West Australians directly affected by cancer as some of the most vulnerable people in our community, particularly those with compromised immune systems, and it is critical that we support them during this time.
“With our upcoming major fundraising events cancelled and our income significantly impacted, we are so grateful for Campbell’s help.
“In these uncertain times, our team is working tirelessly to ensure support is still available for those who need it most.
“Our Wig Service is still providing wigs via post to every corner of the state, our regional Cancer Support Coordinators are still guiding their patients through treatment and beyond via phone calls and video conferencing and our cancer nurses are busy answering the phones to offer emotional support and information through our 13 11 20 Cancer Information and Support line.
“With support like that from Campbell, we can ensure cancer patients and survivors, like Nicole, have vital support when they need it most.”
