Cancer Council WA accepts and is on a journey towards understanding that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples face a number of economic, physical, emotional, and social barriers and disparities that result from the injustice caused by Australia’s continuing history of colonisation.
Cancer Council WA sees a future where the strength, wisdom, and resilience of Aboriginal cultures are incorporated into health strategies to address barriers and support delivery of holistic person-centred education and care across the cancer spectrum.
Our Reconciliation Action Plan journey
Cancer Council WA’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) journey began in November 2016, when we launched our Reflect RAP, which was implemented in September 2019.
With the implementation of our Reflect RAP, a number of significant changes were introduced, including the re-establishment of the Cancer Council WA Aboriginal Advisory Group, development of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cancer Education video, and inclusion of Acknowledgement of Country signage in our buildings.
Our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan
Our commitment to Reconciliation underpins our stated purpose to work with our community to reduce the incidence and impact of cancer.
The motivation to develop and implement the next phase of our Innovate RAP directly links to this purpose as we strive for a cancer free future for all West Australians.
With the support of Reconciliation Australia, we are proud to launch our inaugural Innovate RAP.
Through collaboration, education, and advocacy, Cancer Council WA aims to contribute to a future where Reconciliation is not just a goal but an integral part of improving health outcomes and celebrating a united, respectful society and workplace.
