Capital works program to upgrade local schools

  • ​Nearly $10 million for 2019-20 financial year for administration and toilet upgrades and covered assembly areas
  • Creating jobs, improving WA public schools and supporting WA’s economy
  • The McGowan Government has announced a multimillion dollar investment to upgrade administration areas, toilets and covered assembly areas in older Western Australian public schools.

    This additional investment in public schools across the State will create jobs and deliver a boost to the economy.

    A total of $6.72 million has been allocated for administration upgrades, $2.16 million for toilet upgrades and $510,000 for covered assembly areas.

    The following schools will receive upgrades to administration blocks:

    • Booragoon Primary School – $820,000;
    • Brookman Primary School – $1.6 million;
    • Hampton Park Primary School – $1.6 million;
    • Kalamunda Primary School – $1.5 million; and
    • Mosman Park Primary School – $1.2 million.

    The following schools will receive toilet upgrades:

    • Armadale Senior High School – $150,000;
    • Bridgetown Primary School – $80,000;
    • Carine Primary School – $80,000;
    • Dalwallinu District High School – $120,000;
    • Derby District High School – $80,000;
    • Gibbs Street Primary School – $80,000;                    
    • Gooseberry Hill Primary School – $80,000;
    • Gosnells Primary School – $80,000;
    • Koorda Primary School – $50,000;
    • Morley Primary School – $80,000;
    • Mount Lockyer Primary School – $80,000;
    • Newman Primary School – $160,000;
    • Nulsen Primary School – $80,000;
    • O’Connor Primary School – $80,000;
    • Quairading District High School – $150,000;
    • Safety Bay Senior High School – $80,000;
    • Swan View Senior High School – $150,000;
    • Tambellup Primary School – $80,000;
    • Walliston Primary School – $80,000;
    • Wilson Primary School – $80,000;
    • Wongan Hills District High School – $180,000; and
    • Wundowie Primary School – $80,000.

    Dowerin District High School will receive $510,000 for a new covered assembly area.

    Facilities audits have been undertaken by the Department of Education at all pre-1980 primary schools, and applications from schools for upgrades are assessed and ranked by priority.

    As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

    “We are spending nearly $10 million on upgrades to administration blocks, toilets and covered assembly areas with 13 of these 28 projects in regional WA.

    “This investment at WA public schools will improve our schools and create jobs for Western Australians.”
