Cash and firearm seizure at Gold Coast

Detectives from the Gold Coast Major and Organised Crime Squad (MOCS) have seized weapons and a large sum of cash following a vehicle intercept on the Gold Coast last night.

Officers intercepted a vehicle at Ashmore at approximately 8pm where they discovered a bag containing a large sum of cash inside the vehicle and subsequently arrested and charged a 33-year-old Bundall man with possessing tainted property.

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on December 10.

Following the arrest, detectives executed search warrants at a Bundall address and upon a vehicle parked in Campbell Street resulting in the seizure of two cash counting machines, an additional sum of cash and two handguns.

Police also seized the two vehicles searched.

The total cash seized as part of the investigation is just under two million dollars.

Investigations are continuing, and further charges are expected.

South East Region MOCS Acting Detective Inspector Ian Galpin said the charges reflect police’s ongoing commitment to disrupting criminal activity in the area.

“We are now investigating any possible links to money laundering and or serious organised crime syndicates who generate significant criminal revenue each year,” Acting Detective Inspector Ian Galpin said.

“I encourage anyone with information relating to persons involved in organised crime to contact Crime Stoppers.”
