The Winter Healthy Sporting Club Program saw $184,333 shared amongst 51 sporting clubs across Western Australia, and the Summer Healthy Sporting Club Program saw $121,493 shared amongst 35 clubs across WA.

As stated by Health Minister Roger Cook:

“This is a fantastic initiative to help local sport clubs promote healthy lifestyles to members and spectators.

“Sport clubs are ideally placed to role model healthy behaviours, as healthy eating fuels a healthy body, improving physical performance both on and off the field.

“Through this program clubs have been able to attend nutrition seminars, and we have helped clubs purchase canteen items to help improve the availability of healthy foods. Congratulations to all clubs that have received funding and good luck to all clubs applying in the current round.”

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:

“Community sport is itself a terrific vehicle to drive healthier and more active lifestyles, and the Healthy Sporting Club program compliments that further by encouraging better eating habits inside our grassroots clubs.

“Local clubs deliver participants so many social and health benefits beyond the playing field and this initiative adds yet another aspect to encourage young people to make healthier choices in all aspects of life.”
