CCTV released as investigation continues into stabbing in Coogee

Detectives are appealing for public assistance as inquiries continue into the stabbing of a man in Sydney’s east earlier this month.

About 2pm on Friday 8 January 2021, emergency services were called to a unit on Mount Street, Coogee, after reports a man had been stabbed.

Police have been told a man entered the unit and demanded money from the male occupant. The man then stabbed the occupant several times, before he fled the scene. No money was stolen.

The 33-year-old occupant was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a serious condition, where he underwent multiple emergency surgeries for wounds to his stomach, back and arms.

Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist forensic police.

Detectives established Strike Force Rodsi to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and have now released CCTV of a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The man is described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, aged in his early 20s, between 170cm and 180cm tall, of medium build, with short black hair that is shaved on the sides.

He is depicted in the vision wearing a dark coloured t-shirt with white print on the back, dark coloured shorts and black and white sneakers.

Investigators believe the man used a ride-share service to attend and leave Mount Street and are treating the incident as targeted.

Inquiries continue.
