  • Western Australian Police will have a strong presence at New Year’s Eve hotspots as the State prepares to ring in 2022.

Additional police have been rostered on to ensure revellers can enjoy New Year’s Eve in a safe and celebratory environment.

Specialist police from the Water Police, Mounted Unit and Police Airwing will also assist with the New Year’s Eve policing operation.

Police will also be out in force on WA’s roads targeting motorists engaging in dangerous driving behaviours including drug and drink driving, speeding or using phones.

New Year’s Eve revellers will have access to free, frequent and safe trips home with the McGowan Government offering complimentary travel on the Transperth network from midnight onwards.

Fireworks displays are planned for the Swan River, Rottnest, Fremantle, Rockingham, Mandurah, City Beach, Mindarie and several regional locations.

There will also be a significant police presence at the Perth Cup on New Year’s Day.

As stated by Police Minister Paul Papalia:

“We want people to enjoy their New Year’s Eve, but we want them to do it safely.

“There will be more police out on the beat across Western Australia to ensure people can enjoy New Year’s Eve free from anti-social behaviour.

“And with the free public transport, there really is no excuse for drinking and driving.

“Make New Year’s Eve a night to remember for all the right reasons.

“Get home safely and spare a thought for our hardworking police and emergency service workers who will be on duty looking after you.”
