Centre expansion to meet families’ needs

The wonderful North Brighton Children’s Centre will expand to meet current and future need, thanks to a $2,638,000 redevelopment.

The planned work will respond to increased families in the area from the Brighton New Street housing renewal and the introduction of funded three-year-old kindergarten. It also reflects Bayside families’ strong preference for community sessional kindergarten.

This important facility expansion will increase kindergarten and occasional care

rooms from two to four, provide stimulating outdoor play-spaces, include the addition of a

confidential and/or community meeting room and improve amenity for staff and families.

There will also be a new purpose built Maternal and Child Health Centre on site.

The larger centre will result in 55 children accessing a funded kindergarten place at any given time – an increase of 22 licenced places.

Council has received $600,000 from the Victorian Government through the Kindergarten Building Blocks Grants towards the project and Council is contributing $2,038,000.

Member for the Southern Metropolitan Region, Nina Taylor toured the centre with Bayside Mayor Cr Alex del Porto this week to see the kinder in action, meet staff and discuss the expansion.
