Certificate program develops product management skills

As the owner of a product’s business strategy, a product manager not only coordinates others’ work on a project, but also is ultimately responsible for the business success of the product.

To provide individuals with the tools necessary for the successful navigation of the product lifecycle, from scoping stage to launch, Cornell has launched the new Product Management certificate program, available through eCornell.

“The product manager role is one of great responsibility,” said faculty author Andrea Ippolito, executive director and lecturer in the Engineering Management Program at Cornell Engineering. “Product managers guide the product’s vision, definition, road map and launch. Knowing how to succeed in each of these stages is critical to a product’s ultimate success.”

Those enrolled in the Product Management certificate program will learn how to effectively manage a product development team, develop user stories, identify and select appropriate methodologies, create a product road map and manage product metrics. Participants will then learn how to design and develop a product, and best manage its lifecycle.

This program is designed to benefit current and aspiring product managers, tech leaders, product marketing managers, engineers, software developers, web design professionals, project managers and entrepreneurs. Courses include:

  • Preparing for Success as a Product Manager
  • Managing Product Teams
  • Identifying and Targeting Customer Needs
  • Prioritizing for Product Roadmaps
  • Designing and Developing Products
  • Managing the Product Lifecycle
