Championing healthcare in our communities

Guy Barnett, Minister for Health

The Rockliff Liberal Government is tirelessly working to ensure that the East Devonport community has access to the service that it needs following the Medical Centre’s merger with SmartClinics Devonport.

Minister for Health, Guy Barnett, said that Tasmanians deserve access to healthcare that meets their needs and expectations and that the Federal Government’s failure to adequately invest in Medicare is putting GP clinics at risk.

“The Rockliff Liberal Government continues to work proactively with the community and health representatives and will continue to do so,” said Minister Barnett.

“I facilitated a very constructive meeting last Thursday between East Devonport community members, stakeholders and decision-makers to focus on solutions rather than problems.

“We are focussed on real action and are working with our health stakeholders and the community to address concerns and to ensure that the East Devonport community has access the right healthcare, in the right place, at the right time.

“We will also work towards addressing the community’s concerns on transport and access and I have already scheduled a second roundtable meeting in Devonport for 13 December 2023.

“Having access to general practitioners is crucial for the health and wellbeing of Tasmanians. As General Practice is an Australian Government responsibility, I call on the Federal Labor Government and Minister Mark Butler to provide more support for GPs across Tasmania.”
