Changes to Food Act Classifications

These changes were made to ensure more relevant food safety requirements apply to businesses based on their food safety risk. The changes have altered some classes of food premises and their food safety requirements, establishing five classes of food premises with the inclusion of a new class, 3A.

All food businesses within the City of Greater Geelong will be re-classified to confirm their current class and the applicable food safety requirements – which include staff training, food safety program and record-keeping requirements. Many food businesses will have reduced food safety requirements due to these changes and some may no longer require annual registration with council.
