Changes to immunisation and maternal child health services

During this time of unprecedented challenges due to the Coronavirus we have plans in place to ensure the ongoing delivery of essential services, including immunisation.

It is imperative for families to continue their child’s immunisation schedule.

This week (16-20 March) immunisation sessions will continue as normal.

From next week (23 March) all community immunisation sessions will need to be booked online (this is already the process for evening sessions) so we can reduce the number of people congregating in one space.

If you have more than one child to be immunised you will need to book separate appointments, ideally one after another.

We are also asking that just one (1) adult accompanies their child/children to the immunisation session. Please do not bring extended family/carers to these sessions.

You’ll notice that our immunisation nurses will be wearing protective items like plastic aprons, gloves and eye protectors. This is to protect staff and our community from the spread of the virus.

Our Maternal and Child Health appointments will also continue as normal. When visiting our centres, you will be asked to wash and sanitise your hands and your child’s hands upon entry and exit.

The MCH nurses will take be taking extra precautions by not touching children unless required. For example parents/carers will be asked to place their children on the weight scales. Surfaces will also be thoroughly cleaned, as usual, after each appointment.

Home visits to new parents will continue however if there’s any reason a family does not want the nurse to visit their home, we can arrange alternative appointments.
