Changing Places provide suitable facilities for people who cannot use standard accessible toilets.
These public toilets include an adult sized changing table, ceiling hoist, a peninsular toilet, privacy screen and additional circulation space to meet the needs of people with complex disabilities and their carers.
Mayor, Cr Alex del Porto said more Changing Places facilities means widening the boundaries experienced by people with physical disabilities and giving them a greater choice of places to go.
“It is a basic human right to be able to access a clean, safe and private place to go to the toilet,” Cr del Porto said.
“The inclusion of a Changing Places and portable Changing Places facilities gives residents the opportunity to participate in a community life, without being excluded.”
Bayside currently has two Changing Places toilets: one located in the Church Street precinct (accessed from Church Street through the pedestrian walkway between 82 and 86 Church Street) and our award winning Changing Places at the Thomas Street accessible playground, Thomas Street South Reserve, Hampton.
There are three more Changing Places toilet proposed for Bayside at Half Moon Bay, Elsternwick Park Nature Reserve and Brighton Recreation Centre.
Master Locksmiths Access Key
Changing Places facilities are accessed via a Master Locksmiths Access Key (MLAK), which people with a disability or their carers can apply for.
The Victorian government have introduced a partnership to provide Victorian Companion Card holders with one free MLAK key.
