The challenge is on for current and former Australian Defence Force personnel to break out the books for the 2022 Brothers N Books Read-A-Thon.

More than $64,000 was raised for Legacy Australia last year, with participants aiming to read five books in 50 days and improve their education, resilience and character.

Daniel Keighran VC and comedian Merrick Watts are getting behind the cause this year, and are joined by a growing list of authors and sponsors calling for more participants to take on the challenge.

Brothers N Books founder Captain Dylan Conway, from the 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, said the event has gained momentum through the like-minded nature of first responders and service personnel.

“The Brothers N Books charity brings together the idea of service, sacrifice and overcoming challenges through education and empowerment,” Captain Conway said.

“Reading provides a pathway to a growth mindset and builds resilience through knowledge and understanding.

“Starting that journey can be a challenge, but once you’ve unlocked the door you have so much to gain from words that leap off the pages.”

Captain Conway began his literary journey while recovering from an injury which left him bedridden for 14 months.

“From the initial support I received through the Brothers N Books book club, we’ve grown into a community that shares incredible stories and insights, which is a powerful resource to tap,” Captain Conway said.

For this year’s Read-A-Thon, 10 authors and 10 sponsors will give away prizes every five days from September 1 until the challenge finishes on October 20.
