Charges following attempted carjacking in Cheltenham

Moorabbin Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged four youths following an alleged attempted aggravated carjacking in Cheltenham yesterday.

Investigators allege a number of youths approached a stationary vehicle in a fast-food carpark on the Nepean Highway about 7.45pm.

It’s alleged the youths, armed with knives and an imitation firearm, grabbed the driver and pulled him out of the car before fleeing the scene empty handed.

A 20-year-old Ormond man sustained a slash to his arm and a puncture wound to his back.

Six teenagers were located nearby and arrested a short time later.

Two youths were released from custody without charge.

A 14-year-old Upwey boy, a 14-year-old Narre Warren South boy, a 14-year-old Dandenong girl and a 12-year-old Hampton Park boy are expected to be charged on summons with assault related offences to appear at a children’s court at a later date.
