Charges over alleged impersonation, theft – Western Sydney

A man and a woman have been charged with alleged theft and impersonation offences in Western Sydney this morning.

About 3.30pm (Monday 22 June 2026), officers attached to Auburn Police Area Command were called to a business on Paddock Street, Lidcombe, following reports of a theft.

Upon arrival, police were told a man – allegedly impersonating an Australian Border Force official – and a woman – allegedly impersonating a NSW Police officer – entered the business at around 1.30pm earlier that day.

The pair then allegedly took $3000 cash from the business’ register before leaving the premises.

Police established a crime scene, and an investigation was launched into the incident.

Following extensive inquiries, about 9.35am yesterday (Wednesday 24 June 2026), detectives – with assistance from South West Metropolitan Operations Support Group – executed a search warrant at a property on Jacquie Street, Cabramatta.

During the search, detectives located and seized several items containing NSW Police and Australian Border Force insignia, vapes, cigarettes, and substances believed to be cannabis and methylamphetamine.

A short time later, a 46-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman were arrested at the property and taken to Cabramatta Police Sation.

The 46-year-old man was charged with enter building/land with intent to commit indictable offence, impersonate Commonwealth public official for gain/cause loss, use false document to obtain financial advantage, dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception, and larceny.

The 45-year-old woman was charged with enter building/land with intent to commit indictable offence, impersonate police officer and exercise powers/functions, use false document to obtain financial advantage, dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception, and larceny.

They were both refused bail to appear before Fairfield Local Court today (Thursday 25 June 2026).
