Charlotte Caslick commits to Australian Rugby

A star of both Rugby codes, Charlotte Caslick has today confirmed that she has committed to Rugby Australia and the Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens Program for another year, as the team continues to hunt Olympic Gold in Tokyo in 2021.

Caslick spent time in 2020 playing in the NRLW with the Sydney Roosters but has re-committed to Rugby following on from the other major re-signings including Sharni Williams, Shannon Parry, Ellia Green, Chloe Dalton and Emilee Cherry.

Making her debut for Australia in 2013 in Amsterdam, Caslick became the 30th player to represent the Australian Women’s Sevens team and has since gone on to earn 33 Sevens World Series Caps.

Caslick shot to stardom during the 2016 Rio Olympic Games with the way she played throughout the tournament and was instrumental in the Gold Medal Final scoring a try to ensure Australia’s 24-17 victory.

Caslick and her Sevens teammates were part of a movement that changed the way that Women’s Rugby was perceived in Australia and started a massive wave of young girls rushing to pick up at Rugby ball across the country. In that same year Caslick was named World Rugby Player of the Year at the annual World Rugby Awards.

Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens Head Coach, John Manenti said: “Charlotte is an outstanding athlete and is constantly pushing herself to be the best she can see that drives high standards across the squad.

“Her ability in attack and defence has made her one of the most dangerous players in World Rugby.

“We saw this year how world class Charlotte is across the codes and it is a credit to her the way she attacks every opportunity both on and off the field.

“We are really excited to have Charlotte committing to what will be a big 2021 with the Olympics ahead and making sure that we are peaking at the right time.”

Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens player, Charlotte Caslick said: “I’m really excited to be re-committing to the Australian Sevens program for what will be a massive 2021 with the Olympics in Tokyo.

“This team has taken the challenges thrown at us in our stride and I am really proud of the way we have adapted and progressed with everything that happened this year.

“I am looking forward to continuing the hard work as work towards that Olympic goal.”
