Forecast wet weather is expected to cause closures across national parks and campgrounds in rain-affected areas this weekend.
Heavy rain is predicted in the Illawarra and parts of the Sydney Metropolitan, South Coast and Central Tablelands districts on Saturday.
Several walking tracks and fire trails have been closed in Blue Mountains National Park and the Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area is also closed.
The Minnamurra Rainforest Visitors Centre will be closed this weekend due to forecast heavy rain and potential flooding across the centre’s access road.
The weather conditions could also see closures in other regions, depending on the severity and location of the rainfall.
Anyone thinking about visiting a national park this weekend is urged to consider their need to travel and to check NPWS Alerts web page before they leave home.
Visitors are warned parks and campgrounds may close at short notice as a safety precaution to protect park visitors and staff.
The predicted heavy rainfall may cause flooding, landslips, tree falls, wash out walking tracks and isolate access roads and causeways.
Some park roads may close at short notice.
Visitors are reminded not to enter closed areas and not to cross flooded creeks and flood waters for any reason.
Do not shelter or camp under trees as the risk of tree falls increases with soggy ground and sustained rainfall.
Closed areas will be re-opened once it is safe to do so.
