Check out what’s on for final weekend of Canberra and Region Heritage Festival

The final week of the 2021 Canberra and Region Heritage Festival is here and brings a weekend full of engaging events for you and the whole family to enjoy.

The final weekend includes ANZAC Day on Sunday 25 April. Celebrate the history of the ANZAC’s with events from this year’s Heritage Festival including an ANZAC Eve peace vigil at Mount Ainslie and a tour of Canberra’s war stories featuring the memorials along Anzac Parade.

Saturday 24 April

  • Watch and Clock Display – view a fascinating display of early clocks and watches or bring along one of your own treasured timepieces to the Irish Club in Weston.
  • Print it! At Bungendore– explores the lost art of ruthlessly editing your digital images followed by Treasures from the Tip. Be amazed by what gets jettisoned from our homes.
  • ANZAC Eve Peace Vigil – join in a contemplative lantern-lit procession atop Mount Ainslie towards the War Memorial focused on a peaceful and inclusive future.

Sunday 25 April

  • Canberra’s war stories – held on ANZAC Day, join a tour of Canberra’s war stories against the backdrop of memorials on Anzac Parade.
  • Parkwood Chapel Opening – visit the rarely opened Parkwood Chapel built by Thomas Southwell in 1880, an example of 19th century devotion to religious heritage.
  • AJ Shearsby Renaissance man of Yass – head out over the border and discover the amazing, unassuming, self-taught Renaissance man of Yass, Alfred Shearsby.

As the 2021 Canberra and Region Heritage Festival comes to an end, it’s your last chance to get involved in one of the great events on offer for you. For many events, bookings are essential so that events can be delivered in a COVID-safe way.
