Next Step For Liberty Bell Bay Site

Tasmanian Government

The Tasmanian Government has today expanded the existing Liberty Bell Bay receivership beyond the manganese ore stockpile to the company’s broader assets and undertakings.

This provides an orderly transition to ongoing management by experienced receivers, following the disclamation of the site by the liquidators.

The arrangements are designed to maintain environmental monitoring and maintenance without interruption and ensure the site continues to meet its environmental obligations.

Minister for Business, Industry and Resources, Felix Ellis, said the expanded receivership would ensure the site continues to be managed safely and responsibly.

“With EY having disclaimed the site, we are supporting an orderly transition, avoiding the risk of a more disruptive and costly outcome for Tasmania,” Minister Ellis said.

“The State has expanded the existing receivership to ensure experienced receivers and essential personnel are in place to maintain critical site functions and ongoing environmental and safety management.

“Bell Bay remains a strategically important industrial precinct, and we want to give this site the best possible chance of contributing to new investment and jobs in Northern Tasmania.

“We will continue to assess credible proposals on their merits, with a clear focus on commercial viability and protecting taxpayers.”
