Chief Executive of Department of Premier and Cabinet

Mr Jim McDowell has decided to step down from his role as Chief Executive of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet on 27 November 2020 to return to the private sector.

Premier Steven Marshall expressed his deep thanks and gratitude to Mr McDowell, who was appointed as Chief Executive in July 2018, and wished him all the best for his next role in the private sector.

The Premier said that Mr McDowell has been instrumental in leading South Australia and the public sector throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and has provided significant guidance to the sector since 2018.

The Premier has appointed Mr Nick Reade as the Chief Executive of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, who will commence on the 8th of February 2021.

Mr Reade brings with him a breadth of experience in South Australia’s business community, having served as BankSA’s Chief Executive since March 2014.

He is a proud South Australian who, like thousands of others pursued employment opportunities interstate before returning to our great state.

His career in financial services has spanned 30 years where – among other things – he has had responsibility for small business banking nationally and a focus on digital transformation and innovation.

Mr Reade has a Bachelor of Management and Marketing from the University of South Australia and is an alumnus of the INSEAD Advanced Management Programme in Paris.

Dr Jon Gorvett, Executive Director of Intergovernmental and Diplomatic Relations in the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, will be acting Chief Executive between the 27th of November and the 8th of February 2021.
