Child stealing charge at Spring Hill

Police have charged a 32-year-old woman after she allegedly stole a car with a child on the rear seat in Spring Hill today, November 5.

It will be alleged shortly after midday a woman was standing in the carpark of a Saint Pauls Terrace building when another woman not known to her allegedly got in the driver’s seat of her nearby vehicle and drove away.

The owner of the car, a 33-year-old woman, tracked the vehicle to Leichardt Street through her phone where she attempted to stop the car and restrain the driver.

She received minor injuries.

Members of the public assisted with restraining the female offender until police arrived a short time later.

The 18-month-old child on the backseat was located unharmed.

The 32-year-old woman of no fixed address has been charged with one count each of child stealing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and unlicenced driving.

She is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow, November 6.
