This year’s Christmas Windows competition saw retailers go above and beyond to bring a festive feel to their storefronts.

As Yarra Ranges Council’s annual Christmas window competition drew to a close on Thursday 15 December, Council had received 30 entries and over 300 votes for this year’s competition.

Yarra Ranges Council Mayor, Jim Child confirmed that the competition celebrates the creative, colourful, and luminous window creations and provides a unique opportunity for businesses to gain recognition for their Christmas window efforts and help boost trade in the run-up to the festive season.

“Yarra Ranges businesses really decked out their windows for this holiday season and collectively, they have made a valuable contribution to the heart of the Yarra Ranges, raising spirits and drawing in customers during an important season for trading,” he said.

“Thank you to all of the businesses that entered, and congratulations to all of our 2022 winners.”

“this competition and the number of entrants and votes demonstrates not only the willingness of our businesses to get involved in initiatives that seek to improve our region over the festive season, but also the public support for our regions businesses and it gives us an opportunity to reward them for their efforts.”

Four winners were picked from four different categories: urban, hills, valley and upper. The winners were voted on by the Yarra Ranges community and each received a hamper of locally sourced goods.

Tealeaves was the winner from the Hills area with 40 votes.

Owner of Tatianas in Monbulk, Shash Sesenadeerage thanked the community for their support.

“This is the first time we entered and the support we received from our customers and community has just been amazing,” she said.

“We’re a fairly new business and all through COVID the community supported us, and this was a great opportunity to decorate the store and bring some Christmas cheer. We took this as an opportunity to put up a Christmas tree and put up lights and it’s been really nice when I go there at night time and it looks so bright and cheery.”

“I need to thank my amazing staff for helping me decorate and also the Monbulk community and customers who have really welcomed us as part of their family over the last few years.”
