Christmas waste services and bin collections

Shellharbour City Council is undertaking a campaign to inform residents of waste services and bin collection times for the 2021 holiday season.

There will be no bin collections on Christmas Day. All residents who usually have their bins collected on Fridays should put them out on Christmas night to be collected on Boxing Day, Saturday 26 December.

This year, there will be an extra recycling pick up during the Christmas and New Year period. Please view your waste calendar for details or visit shellharbourwaste.com.au.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba encouraged residents to take advantage of the free waste services available this Christmas.

“If you have extra recycling, you can take it to the Dunmore Recycling and Waste Disposal Depot for no cost,” Cr Saliba said.

“You can also use FOGO to dispose of a wide range of organics commonly used over the season including meat and bones, seafood and shells, paper towels, napkins and even natural Christmas trees, once they have been chopped up.

“Christmas can create a significant increase in waste. If we all try our best to recycle and use FOGO correctly, we can make a great difference as a community in reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfill.

“I encourage residents to explore the Shellharbour Waste website to learn more about how they can achieve not only a more sustainable Christmas, but find helpful tips to use every day of the year,” she said.
