Buckle your helmets and get in your shopping trolley, BOOP by Statera Circus is coming to Griffith Regional Theatre on Friday 12 May!
Set in an everyday supermarket, which is transformed into a joyous world of balance, circus and Perspex, BOOP follows a ragtag team of employees as they subvert their normal 9-5 job with crashing shelves, trolley races, and terrifying stunts.
This amazing circus show offers nail-biting, on-the-edge-of-your-seat tension, balanced with comedic characters that tumble, stumble and grapple with identity in an ever-changing world of chaos, day dreams and absolute absurdity.
Statera Circus is made up of four extremely talented artists – Karina Schiller, Dylan Singh, Aleshanee Kelso and Tomas Correia. They all hail from highly regarded circus schools such as Flying Fruit Flies, the National Institute of Circus Arts, and Spaghetti Circus and worked with some of the biggest circus companies in Australia including Circus Oz, Casting Off and many more.
Combining skills from hoop diving, tumbling, trampoline and using a unique apparatus called the Perspex edge, this hilarious 50-minute family show will immerse the audience in physical theatre, clown and inventive acrobatics. is also a highly narrative circus piece using an absurdist lens and comedic characters, circus stunts, all in a theatrical supermarket setting to tell relatable stories for young people. The show looks at finding your place in the world, and revelling in the lack of sense life makes sometimes.
Statera Circus co-founder and performer Aleshanee Kelso said, “BOOP was born from four friends that wanted to push the limits of an apparatus and the boundaries of Circus. Our relationships shine through our witty and somewhat ill-advised characters. We have a strong passion to share our stories with young people emerging into the world, with the hope they realise they are capable of more than they ever knew.”
With guidance from accessibility consultants, BOOP has also embedded aspects of accessibility into every performance, including the use of captions written on place cards and incorporating a considered range of sound and lighting.
The Theatre is also excited to announce their local Senior Youth Troupe will perform a short play as the curtain raiser for BOOP. The Troupe is made up of a small number of local high school and has been working hard to develop this performance and they’re all looking forward to stepping on the stage, a first time for some, and performing in front of their family, friends, and the general public coming to see BOOP.
Griffith Regional Theatre Manager, Marg Andreazza, said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for our young performers to showcase their talents in front of a large audience, without the pressure to perform an entire show. The kids are all eager and we can’t wait to see what they’ve come up with. And BOOP looks like a lot of fun as well – the whole family will enjoy it.”
BOOP will be performing at Griffith Regional Theatre on Friday 12 May at 6pm. It is an imaginative, clever, and funny circus production that all ages will enjoy. Tickets range from $20 – $35 and can be purchased from the Box Office, by calling 6962 8444 or visiting www.griffithregionaltheatre.com.au
