Geelong is set to show its colours
this Sunday 17 May for International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia,
Intersexism and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).
This
year’s IDAHOBIT marks 30 years since the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from the
classification of diseases and related health problems.
IDAHOBIT was
established in 2004 to celebrate and acknowledge this day in history, while
raising awareness for the work still needed.
The City proudly acknowledges
the day and works with a number of groups, businesses and organisations in
Geelong to support and celebrate acts of inclusion in our region.
On Sunday 17 May the City is
acknowledging IDAHOBIT in the following ways:
– Flying the
rainbow flag at City Hall from Friday 15 May to Sunday 17 May; and
– The catenary
lights at the corner of Moorabool and Malop streets will glow in rainbow colours.
The City has also partnered with Geelong Rainbow Inc, Koori Pride Network, Wellways, Barwon
Health, the Department of Education and Training, Geelong Football Club and
Worksafe Victoria in producing a video for IDAHOBIT that promotes inclusion in
our community.
While we can’t gather in person at this time, there are ways you too can
show your support and get involved at home.
Wear the rainbow
Rally your friends, family and colleagues to wear something rainbow on Sunday
17 May to show their support for the LGBTIQA+ community.
