City of Hobart grants jazzing up our community

Grants

City of Hobart Grants can be the lifeblood for many of Hobart’s festivals and events.

Twice a year, the City opens applications for community groups and bodies to support community driven activities that make a real difference for people and communities.

The City of Hobart invests in activities that enhance our community and culture and shape the social and economic life of Hobart.

Recent successful applicants saw funding go to such diverse areas as the Latin American Cultural Association of Tasmania, TasPride, IT Services Hobart, the New Town Cricket Club and the Barbershop Harmony Festival.

One such recipient was the Hobart Jazz Club, which received funding through City of Hobart Events funding towards its free Hot August Jazz performances across North Hobart on Sunday.

Hobart Jazz Club president Kaye Payne said the access to grant funding has been a key factor in the organisation’s longevity.

“In the 18 years of operation we have managed to continue and keep the festival a free event due to the generosity of community groups, and grants made available to us from the City of Hobart,” Ms Payne said.

“I personally feel this festival plays an important role in bringing people, businesses and local artists together.

“This has been the aim of the Hobart Jazz Club since its inception.”

Funding ranges from $750 to more than $20,000 (for an Event Partnership Grant) with the City of Hobart providing grants across six streams – Community, Creative Hobart, Event, Christmas, Heritage, Urban Sustainability and International Student Support.
