The City of Swan is proud to officially open a multi-purpose youth centre to support young people in the heart of Ellenbrook.
On Thursday, May 4 the new $6million Ellenbrook Youth Centre officially opened to those aged between 12 and 25 years.
It will provide young people with a space to socialise, connect, and participate in a range of health, wellbeing and development activities.
The centre includes basketball courts, playing fields, shaded places to sit and hang out with friends, a creative studio, first aid room and laundry and cleaning facilities.
Through the facility young people will have access to services such as counselling, financial advice, employment assistance and training.
Cr David Lucas, City of Swan Mayor, said the centre would not have been possible without the support of the WA government and numerous organisations.
“I sincerely thank Lotterywest for their $2.05 million contribution to this project, as well as the $1.86 million investment via the State Government’s WA Recovery Plan, without which this project may not have been possible,” he said.
“I would also like to thank Ellenbrook Joint Venture and Stocklands for their contribution.
“This fantastic facility is an investment in the future of Ellenbrook and will open up a range of opportunities for our local young people.”
Local youth have been involved throughout the project.
“Young people have been an integral part of the planning process since the project started in 2017,” Cr Lucas said.
“Giving young people the opportunity to see the youth centre as it was being built, and allowing them to have input on how they intend to use the space, means we now have a facility that our young people can be proud of and enjoy.”
