The City of Swan has developed its blueprint plan for the next ten years after working closely with community to define the vision and key focus areas.

The new Strategic Community Plan (SCP) 2021 to 2031 was adopted at the January 20 Council Meeting and includes prioritising our natural environment and community engagement.

The SCP is the City’s highest-level planning document, and guides the development of all other strategies and business planning.

The City’s first SCP was delivered in 2012, undergoing major reviews in 2016 and 2020 to ensure that our work remains relevant and reflective of community requirements.

City of Swan Mayor Kevin Bailey said the City’s new Strategic Community Plan gives a voice to community priorities.

“The SCP is the City’s most important planning document and it’s vital to us that the community plays a key role in its direction.

“For the first time, we established a deliberative community-based panel who used community feedback and other important information to develop a set of findings and recommendations on the plan for our Council.

“The final plan was refined with Council input, followed by a second opportunity for the community to provide feedback.

“On behalf of Council, we are grateful to all of the people that provided their time and feedback throughout these stages of consultation to help us deliver a better plan for our community.

“We look forward to entering a chapter of new direction for the City with a new community blueprint to be administered by our new CEO, Jeremy Edwards.”

Some of the key changes include more focus on protecting the natural environment, improved measures for how we are meeting community expectations and a new objective to engage, communicate and consult with our community and stakeholders.

The plan also includes United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to demonstrate how the City can contribute to making a positive global impact.
