The Government has announced $192 million for the Clearer Water for a Healthy Reef program.
Improving water quality is one of the most important things we can do to protect the Great Barrier Reef.
The funding will increase actions to improve Reef water quality. It will benefit biodiversity, ecosystem resilience and land management in Reef catchments.
The funding will:
- deliver projects to increase efforts to reduce nutrient and pesticide runoff
- support healthy wetland habitats, protect Reef biodiversity and build ecosystem resilience
- deliver Traditional Owner led and community programs to support on-ground activities
- support job creation and economic recovery for industries, regional communities and Traditional Owners.
We will fund a range of sub-programs to deliver these actions. The design of the sub-programs is underway.
Applications for funding are not being sought at this stage. Funding decisions must follow formal processes. This includes:
- Commonwealth Procurement Rules
- Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles
