Climate Week NYC 2020: India States’ Climate Leadership Forum

Indian States at Climate Week NYC 2020

As the first year of the Climate Decade concludes, we call for attention on India’s role in the global transition in the climate action agenda. While we are facing the real consequences of the ongoing pandemic – we must also take stock of voices, commitment and actions that address climate change.

2020 has been an unprecedented year. The country has seen a series of extreme climatic events – the floods in Orissa, Cyclone Amphan, severe heat waves across north India and the locust attacks in agricultural fields. While the national government sets its agenda to address these events, Indian states play a critical role in unpacking the causes and impacts of these events, and shape pathways to address them.

On Thursday, 24th September, Climate Group, in partnership with Climate Trends, will host an event at this year’s Climate Week NYC to showcase climate action being taken by various state governments in India. We see these actions as powerful levers to keeping global temperature rises to well below 2°C with efforts to reach 1.5°C. They are also critical in helping India achieve its commitments under the Paris Agreement.

Join us in exploring what the strongest change makers from regional governments have to say.
