The Morrison Government’s crackdown on dodgy child care providers has now saved the taxpayer more than $3 billion.
Minister for Education Dan Tehan said more than 380 services had now been listed on the Child Care Enforcement Register since its introduction two years ago.
In the July 2019 quarter, eight services were added to the Enforcement Register and six services were cancelled.
“We are taking tough action against dodgy child care operators who are ripping off hard-working Aussie families,” Mr Tehan said.
“Providers who are rorting the child care system, ripping off families and taxpayers will be caught and may face criminal charges.
“The Morrison Government does not apologise for taking a hard line against shonky operators and the criminal elements who are targeting the child care sector.
“The majority of providers are doing the right thing and our strong action is protecting their reputation and the good standing of the sector.”
More than one million Australian children have been in the care of early education and child care services in the last year. More than four million sessions of care, from centre-based day care and family day care, are logged on average each week.
