In an exciting cross-collaboration project, students from Elizabeth Downs Primary School and Playford International College have joined forces to develop a virtual reality experience known as the CnVRg project.
The unique initiative has seen young minds come together to contribute their creativity and build technical skills to create game characters, assets, and worlds for an immersive adventure.
The CnVRg project aims to harness the power of game development programs to provide an engaging and educational learning environment for students ranging from 9 to 16 years.
Students continue to be actively involved and gathered at Northern Sound System in late August to put their imaginations to work while also gaining hands-on experience.
Under the guidance of their teachers and game development professionals, the students have delved into the world of 3D modeling, animation, and storytelling. From designing fantastical creatures to intricate assets, the young participants have proven their ability to think outside the box and bring their vision to life within the virtual realm.
Elizabeth Downs Primary School student, Crowley said he had “made a sea cleaning robot that picks up any rubbish and helps the sea life and the environment”.
Playford International College student, Sarge said “I’ve made all kinds of things… bookshelves, books and mystical golden orbs which I textured in Photoshop, but model in Blender”.
The CnVRg project showcases the significance of fostering innovation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education by nurturing the creative spirit of young people. Beyond the technical skills acquired, participants have honed their teamwork, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
The students will visit Flinders University’s motion capture studio, The Void, this month. As the project continues to unfold, the anticipation grows for the eventual release of the VR experience later this year.
The CnVRg project is a collaboration between the City of Playford’s Northern Sound System and BAE Systems Australia, partnering with local schools with the support of industry and education partners.
