Collaboration Agreement – Goulburn Mulwaree Council and NSW LAHC

Goulburn Mulwaree Council

Goulburn Mulwaree Council and the NSW Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC) have entered into a formal Collaboration Agreement that will enable the improved delivery of new government housing and the renewal of existing dwellings by NSW LAHC.

This agreement is intended to provide a framework for communication and planning between the two organisations in order to get the best and most timely outcomes for the community. The agreement provides a mechanism for Council to assist with the renewal and growth process of social housing by identifying suitable surplus land for development under Council ownership.

Social housing is an important component of the housing market in Goulburn with over 600 homes owned or managed by NSW LAHC. NSW LAHC’s vision is to provide a benchmark in well-designed social housing that is affordable, safe, well located and well-maintained in order to facilitate a better quality of life for residents and communities. LAHC is actively growing and managing the largest social housing portfolio in Australia to deliver safe secure housing for those in need.

Goulburn Mulwaree Council Mayor Peter Walker said, “Council has identified the need for a greater diversity of housing stock to meet a wider variety of demand as our population grows, and the type of households change over time. Council recognises the important role that NSW LAHC has as a housing provider to our community in both the delivery of new dwellings to meet changing demand and in the maintenance and renewal of existing housing stock in Goulburn”.

Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman welcomed the formal agreement between Council and LAHC.

“It is fantastic to see Goulburn Mulwaree Council and NSW Land and Housing working together towards delivering a greater supply of social housing across the region.

“This agreement is a wonderful example of maximising government land for community benefit and will result in more social housing properties for the Goulburn Mulwaree region, as well as a boost for local jobs and businesses that will benefit from the construction opportunities that are presented through new supply and renewal of social housing properties,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
