The Collie Adventure Trails program is off to a flying start with the construction of a new adaptive mountain bike trail.
Located north of Collie, the Arklow Adaptive Trail is designed to accommodate hand cycles, giving mountain bike riders with a disability an opportunity to ride through the pristine Arklow Forest.
The trail consists of a 9.5km loop that connects to the Munda Biddi Trail and provides access to Collie.
It forms part of the McGowan Government’s $10 million Collie Adventure Trails initiative to establish Collie as Western Australia’s premier trail adventure town, with 100km of high-quality mountain bike trails between Wellington National Park and the town of Collie.
These trails will challenge all levels of cyclists and have the potential to be a magnet for national and international cyclists and tourists.
As stated by Environment and Disability Services Minister Stephen Dawson:
“Collie is fast becoming an adventure trail town.
“Projects like the recently completed Arklow Adaptive Trail are giving people with different abilities the opportunity to experience the forest and connect with the natural environment while enjoying a challenging ride.
“I’ve already heard fantastic feedback from riders who have tried out the newly constructed Arklow Adaptive Trail and by all accounts the experience is unforgettable.”
As stated by Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray:
“The new mountain bike trails in Collie have the potential to draw tourists from across WA and Australia to experience this region.
“By enticing more tourists and adventure lovers to Collie to experience these new trails, we will see the flow-on effect for the local economy as visitors use services and local hospitality options during their stay.”
