CommBank Pararoos squad for Para Asian Cup selection camp

The CommBank Pararoos will come together for a selection camp in Melbourne later this week, as preparations continue for the upcoming 2023 IFCPF Asia-Oceania Championships (Para Asian Cup).

Being staged at the Home of the Matildas also in Melbourne between 31 October and 12 November, the 2023 Para Asian Cup will be the first major tournament on home soil for the CommBank Pararoos in more than 20 years.

It’s a largely unchanged squad from the one named in July, which includes an exciting crop of emerging players with no less than nine aged under 20-years-old.

The selection camp shapes as one of the last opportunities for Head Coach, Kai Lammert and his staff to work directly with players prior to selecting the CommBank Pararoos squad for the Para Asian Cup.

The 16-man squad will assemble on Friday, 8 September for a three-day selection camp, which will be based out of the Home of the Matildas, while also utilising facilities at Parade College, Bundoora.

CommBank Pararoos’ Head Coach, Kai Lammert said the opportunity for the squad to familiarise themselves with tournament surroundings for the Para Asian Cup would be invaluable.

“We’re extremely fortunate to have access to the Para Asian Cup host venue during this week’s selection camp, I know the players and staff are looking forward to seeing the Home of the Matildas for the first time – it looks like an incredible facility,” Lammert said.

“The group we’re bringing into camp has had the opportunity to train consistently for a few months now and we’ll be looking to build on that foundation throughout this camp, while also looking to replicate a lot of the conditions we’ll see once the tournament kicks off.

“As the Para Asian Cup fast approaches, I’m realising just how difficult it will be to only select a 14-man squad for the tournament. This is a very important camp for the players, and I look forward to seeing the energy they bring to our sessions and training games,” Lammert concluded.

In addition to training out of both the Home of the Matildas and Parade College, the CommBank Pararoos will play fixtures against local clubs across the weekend.

This year’s Para Asian Cup will be contested by both the CommBank Pararoos and CommBank ParaMatildas, with the final squads to be announced closer to the tournament.
