Commercial leasing opportunities open at historic Murwillumbah Railway Station

Tweed Shire Council

Tweed Shire Council is calling for expressions of interest from businesses interested in taking up a commercial lease at the historic Murwillumbah Railway Station precinct.

Interested parties are encouraged to express their interest ahead of a shortlisted tender process. The first stage of this process aims to identify and pre-register organisations with the capacity, capability and experience required for the proposed lease contract and involves two briefing and on-site inspection opportunities.

Council’s Manager of Destination, Communication and Customer Experience Tiffany Stodart said she was keen to hear from businesses interested in delivering experiences across the five product categories of the Rail Trail: Taste, Stay, Move, Explore and Enjoy.

“Since the Rail Trail’s opening in March, Murwillumbah Railway Station has become a vibrant trailhead for the Tweed’s 24 km section of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail,” Ms Stodart said.

“With visitor numbers exceeding expectations and more than 84,000 people anticipated in the first year of operations, the railway station is all about the right location, location, location.

“We’re excited to present this opportunity for businesses to establish themselves at the heart of the attraction – the state heritage-listed Murwillumbah Railway Station – which is also the gateway to the Murwillumbah CBD.

“We are seeking opportunities that align with the Rail Trail’s values and deliver appropriate guest services for a Rail Trail. We’ve had a lot of interest to date and we can now open the process to see what ideas and opportunities our businesses and industry have in mind.

“Our aim is to create a safe and activated precinct that celebrates and preserves the significant heritage of the site while delivering world-class standards for the Northern Rivers Rail Trail. We can’t wait to take this incredible Tweed attraction to the next level.”

The commercial leasing opportunities include three shopfront spaces on the platform and one ground-level site for a food truck offering. Expressions of interest will be open until 19 July 2023.
