Community advisory panel for new Aquatic Centre

Greater Geelong residents are invited to apply for a position on the new Community Advisory Panel that will help identify several design options for the second stage of the North Bellarine Aquatic Centre in Drysdale.

Residents are encouraged to consider joining the volunteer panel, which will help provide a community perspective on the design options for the second stage of the aquatic centre.

The panel will be comprised of up to 12 members that represent the following areas of interest within the community:

  • Local Schools
  • Aquatic Clubs / users
  • North Bellarine Advocacy Group (NBAG)
  • Specific Users (i.e., culturally and linguistically diverse and disability groups)
  • Additional expertise in aquatic design.

Stage one of the project is well underway and includes an eight lane 50-metre outdoor heated pool, all abilities change facilities, an entry pavilion, a kiosk, tiered covered seating, a landscaped community lawn area with umbrellas, more than 100 trees, and parking for 60 cars.

The City of Greater Geelong has an election commitment of $20 million from the Victorian Government in addition to the Federal Government’s commitment of $20 million towards stage two of the North Bellarine Aquatic Centre.

Residents are encouraged to apply online now before applications close at 9am on Monday 19 December 2022.

All applicants will be contacted to acknowledge the receipt of their Expression of Interest and may be invited to attend an interview.

Mayor Trent Sullivan

This is an opportunity to people from across our community to have their say and help guide the delivery of this long-awaited community facility. Providing ongoing opportunities for community members to share their feedback on the plans means we’ll achieve the best outcome.

Bellarine Ward Councillor, Stephanie Asher

I’m proud that we’re delivering on our commitments to The Bellarine community with a new pool that supports the health and wellbeing of local residents. Bellarine ward councillors have been on this journey with the community since the beginning and our strong advocacy for this facility will continue.

Bellarine Ward Councillor, Jim Mason

Everyone agrees the Bellarine needs more aquatic facilities, so I expect there will be plenty of community members who want to get involved in the community advisory panel.
