SA Police have welcomed four new Community Constables into its midst, with a graduation ceremony held on Wednesday.
Their graduation, in front of Deputy Police Commissioner Linda Williams, followed a 16-week training course at the Police Academy.
The four graduates, two men and two women ranging in age from 19 to 27, have a diverse range of backgrounds.
Within SA Police Community Constables play a key role in breaking down barriers and build engagement opportunities with specific sections of society. Their background and training helps to build relationships and improve local community’s safety and wellbeing.
Three of the graduates are being posted to metropolitan locations and one is heading to Whyalla in the Eyre and Western Local Service Area.
In a process similar to police cadet recruiting, Community Constable applicants undergo a range of tests including psychological and medical, while a panel interview marks the final step in the selection process.
When working alongside a police officer, Community Constables have full police powers. They must qualify and remain proficient in firearms, tactical options and driving requirements as required by any operational police officer.
