Community consultation opens on St Johns Park Precinct Draft Masterplan

Jeremy Rockliff, Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing

Tasmanians are invited to have their say on the Draft Masterplan to transform St Johns Park in New Town into a contemporary Health and Wellbeing Precinct.

The Draft Masterplan was released in May this year, and will see the Precinct provide expanded mental health, subacute and community-based services to meet future demand in Southern Tasmania.

Consultation on the Draft Masterplan opens today and will continue for the next four weeks.

Premier and Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing, Jeremy Rockliff, said the Precinct will deliver palliative care, rehabilitation, geriatric evaluation and management, alcohol and drug, and mental health services in new purpose-built and refurbished facilities across the site.

“The Tasmanian Liberal Government is investing in the health services and facilities our communities need, and this redevelopment of St Johns Park will ensure its continued use for expanded health services in Southern Tasmania for generations,” Premier Rockliff said.

“As well as providing these important health services, the site will be revitalised with additional parking, walking paths, and unique green spaces for the community.”

Minister for Health, Guy Barnett, said the St Johns Park Health and Wellbeing Precinct aligns with broader infrastructure master planning for Southern Tasmania, in particular the Royal Hobart Hospital Masterplan 2020-2050.

“The development of the St Johns Park precinct will see the site transformed and revitalised into a contemporary healthcare campus,” Minister Barnett said.

“The Rockliff Liberal Government is delivering for all Tasmanians to make our beautiful State the best place to live, work and raise a family.”

An online survey about the St Johns Park precinct is available on the Department’s website.

Drop-in community sessions will also be held on Thursday 21 September between 3.30pm-6.30pm and Saturday 23 September between 10.30am-1.30pm at Pat Murnane Memorial Hall, 188 Lenah Valley Road, Lenah Valley.

Tasmanians are encouraged to help shape the St Johns Park precinct by having their say on the Draft Masterplan, with consultation open until 24 September 2023.
