Community Engagement Concludes as Geelong Youth Hub Co-design Enters Next Phase

The City of Greater Geelong is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the first community engagement phase for the development of the Geelong Youth Hub.

Since the beginning of January, the City actively engaged with young people, youth service providers, parents, teachers and the local community to inform the future of the hub.

Feedback contributed included valuable insights and feedback regarding the space layout, desired support services, activity offerings, and ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all youth.

Positioned within the Busport building on the corner of Gheringhap Street and Transit Place in central Geelong, the new Youth Hub represents an investment in the well-being and empowerment of the region’s youth.

Throughout the engagement process, which included online surveys, two co-design workshops, community events, and school engagements; hundreds of young people across the region shared their perspectives on various aspects of the Geelong Youth Hub.

In addition, 52 young people have indicated an interest in being on the hub’s youth-led Committee of Management.

Christine Couzens, State Member for Geelong

Young people in Geelong identified having a central Youth Hub as an important issue for them. They also believed that having input into the design, and services and activities the hub provided was vital.

I look forward to seeing the Geelong Youth Hub become a reality that provides youth with what they want and need.

Mayor Trent Sullivan

We’ve been thrilled by the level of engagement from our local youth community. Their input has been invaluable in ensuring that the Geelong Youth Hub reflects the needs and aspirations of our young people.

Junior Mayor Hteemoo Yohellaymusaw

The active participation of our local youth community has been truly inspiring, and their valuable input will shape the future of this vital project.

As we enter the next phase of development, I’m filled with excitement for what lies ahead. The Geelong Youth Hub represents more than just a physical space; it’s an opportunity to empower young people across our region.

Together, we are creating a vibrant hub located in central Geelong that will provide a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where youth can thrive, connect, and access the resources they need to reach their full potential.

I look forward to seeing the positive impact that the Geelong Youth Hub will have on the lives of young people in the Geelong community.

The co-design process now enters its next phase, where feedback will be incorporated into the final plans for the Geelong Youth Hub.

Additional work to be undertaken following the conclusion of this community engagement phase, includes developing the governance and operational model and design for construction, which is expected to commence mid-year.
