Community information session on Sancrox quarry proposal

The Port Macquarie community is invited to learn more about the proposed Sancrox Quarry expansion project and the planning process at an information session next week.

The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment is holding a community information session on Monday, 10 February 2020 to explain the proposal, the assessment process and the next steps, and to listen to the community’s view on the proposal.

The proposal includes increasing production at Sancrox Quarry from 450,000 to 750,000 tonnes each year and building and operating a concrete batching plant, an asphalt production plant and a concrete recycling facility on the site.

Director of Resource Assessments, Matthew Sprott, said the meeting was an opportunity for everyone to learn more about the assessment process and what happens next.

“We are aware there is community concerns about this proposal, so we want to meet with locals face-to-face and provide clarity on the planning process,” Mr Sprott said.

“Community input is essential to help us make a thorough and rigorous assessment and ensure potential impacts are fully considered.

“The applicant will need to address all concerns raised by the community in its Response to Submissions Report before the Department undertakes a rigorous merit-based assessment of the proposal.”

The information session will be held from 6.00pm until 8.00pm at the Rydges Hotel, 1 Hay Street, Port Macquarie.
