Community Planting Day At East Point Reserve

Darwin City Council

Darwin residents are invited to help create a greener city at a community planting day to be held at East Point Reserve this Saturday, 25 May 2024.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the planting day would help create a cool, green and clean city for all residents as well as to help regenerate the East Point area.

“East Point Reserve is a special place for the people of Darwin and is one of the most popular recreation areas for both locals and visitors,” Mr Vatskalis said.

“The reserve is one of the largest in Darwin, boasting 200 hectares of green space and recreation spaces.

“We have been looking after the area since 1984 and we are striving to balance the ecological, cultural and historic values of the site while also providing recreational areas for everyone to enjoy.

“Holes have been pre-drilled for the community planting day to make it easy for people to take part, and we aim to plant 3,000 tube stock native plants to continue to revegetate the area,” he said.

The planting day will run from 7.30am until 11am opposite the Darwin Military Museum.

Sunscreen, gloves and cold water will be provided and there will be staff on onsite to assist. Attendees are encouraged to wear a hat and enclosed shoes.
