11 February 2020

The Premier has dropped in to visit Foxwell State Secondary College at Coomera, to see how its first ever students are getting on in their brand-new school.

Foxwell State Secondary College is one of eight new schools – built by the Palaszczuk Government – to open for the start of the 2020 school year. Another five schools will open in 2021.

The Premier said construction of the $64 million Stage 1 of the school which supported 192 local jobs and 34,800 apprentice and trainee hours was part of her government’s $1.3 billion Building Future Schools Fund.

“I’m proud of my Government’s investment in Foxwell State Secondary College, one of eight new State schools to have opened a fortnight ago,” the Premier said.

“This was the most amount of Queensland schools to open in one day in the last 30 years.

“I’ve had the privilege to visit several of the new schools now and I see pride, excitement and dedication, and marvellous, modern facilities.

“This a wonderful school and a great community and you should all be very proud of this incredible new school.

“I’d like to also acknowledge the Foxwell family who the school is named after. They were important pioneers of the Coomera community and this will ensure their legacy lives on.”

Minister for Education Grace Grace said the Year Seven students who’ve started at the school this year will be the foundation students as they move through to Year 12 in 2025, joined by a new cohort each year.

“Stage 1 includes an administration building, information centre, junior learning spaces, covered area, canteen, green space and a sports centre as well as specialty learning spaces,” Ms Grace said.

“Stage 2 is forecast for completion in early 2022 and is expected to deliver a kitchen and food studies spaces, science laboratories, senior construction workshops, learning spaces, kinesiology laboratories, and a performing arts centre.

“We want every child in Queensland to have the opportunity to achieve their potential, so we are investing in teachers and teacher-aides as well as world-class infrastructure to create the best learning environments.

“The opportunities and facilities at Foxwell State Secondary College, and at every other State school around Queensland, will set the students on the pathway towards a successful career, a good life and bright future.”
