Community residents urged to plan ahead for big weekend – Borroloola

Northern Territory Police in Borroloola are urging community residents to ensure their vehicle is road worthy and community members have plans in place ahead of the upcoming Borroloola Rodeo and campdraft next weekend.

“Borroloola residents can expect to see their local police out in force and targeting those who choose to put others at risk and drink drive,” said Officer in Charge, Sergeant Cherie Gaffney

“We also encourage community members to make sure their vehicles are road worthy as failing to registered or insure your vehicle is a traffic offence.”

Four people in the remote community of Borroloola have been arrested and charged by Northern Territory Police for drink driving and traffic related offences within a 24 hour period this weekend.

A 36-year-old man who returned a breath analysis of 0.152 per cent will appear before the Borroloola Local Court on 2 November, 2020 charged with one count of High Range Drink Driving and one Count of Driving Unlicensed.

A 29-year-old man who returned a positive breath analysis of 0.155 per cent, was also found to be driving unlicensed and in possession of alcohol in an alcohol protected area. He was charged with one count each of High Range Drink Driving, Driving Unlicensed and Bring alcohol into Alcohol Protected area and will appear before the Borroloola Local Court on 2 November, 2020.

A 42-year-old man who returned a positive reading of 0.143 per cent and found to be driving unlicensed, unregistered and uninsured was charged with one count of Medium Range Drink Driving, Driving Unregistered, Driving Unlicensed, Driving Uninsured and is scheduled to appear before the Borroloola Local Court on 2 November, 2020.

A 40-year-old woman will appear before the Borroloola Local Court on 2 November 2020 charged with traffic related offences after she was found driving whilst disqualified, driving unlicensed, uninsured and unregistered.

“Four drink drivers on our roads is four too many, and the community can be rest assured that alcohol related offending will not be tolerated,” said OIC Sgt Gaffney.
