Community shaping vision around future Morley Station precinct

  • Morley Station Precinct Concept Master Plan underway to set vision for area and enhance connections to Morley Galleria
  • Morley, Embleton and Bayswater community to play key role in shaping the future precinct
  • Morley-Ellenbrook Line main construction contract on track for award in late 2020
  • METRONET to create thousands of local jobs over the life of the project
  • Residents and businesses around the future METRONET Morley Station are stepping up to make the most of a once in a lifetime investment, by helping shape the Morley Station Precinct Concept Master Plan.

In April 2020, 262 people living and working within approximately one kilometre of the future station located at the Broun Avenue bridge gave their vision for the area which included green spaces, cafes and walking connections.

The Concept Master Plan, which will be developed in consultation with the City of Bayswater, will set the design vision and high-level roadmap for planning and infrastructure delivery around the station to enhance the area and connections to Morley town centre and Galleria.

This plan will be used to inform the preparation of a local structure plan, which will provide further detail on infrastructure, zoning and development to implement the design vision over time.

Morley Station will only be a three-minute train ride from Bayswater Station and a 15-minute journey to Perth and will link to the Morley Galleria, surrounding businesses and local community through high-frequency bus services.

The Morley-Ellenbrook Line main construction contract is on track for award later this year with two shortlisted proponents – Ellenbrook Alliance (CPB Contractors and Downer EDI) and MELconnx Consortium (Laing O’Rourke Australia Construction) currently in the competitive bid phase.

As stated by Planning Minister Rita Saffioti:

“Our METRONET vision is to connect communities across Perth by providing more transport, housing and employment choices.

“The significant investment in the Morley-Ellenbrook Line provides the opportunity to continue to grow the Morley Activity Centre as an important social and economic hub for the north-east corridor.

“Three decades ago the Galleria opened and put Morley on the map and the area will once again come into focus when the Morley-Ellenbrook Line is completed.

“From the community survey results it is clear Morley, Embleton and Bayswater residents are extremely proud of their friendly and multi-cultural community and want to see the area grow, while keeping what makes them unique.

“The Morley Station Precinct Concept Master Plan will help do this by setting the framework for what is possible within walking distance of the future station and enhancing connections to the Galleria.”

As stated by Morley MLA Amber-Jade Sanderson:

“This concept plan will provide vision and clear direction for the private sector and help stimulate much needed new investment in the commercial precinct.

“We want the many private land holders to develop their land for the revitalisation of Morley.”

As stated by Bayswater MLA Lisa Baker:

“Mapping out the future of the Morley Station precinct is a great opportunity for the residents of Morley, Bedford, Embleton and Bayswater.

“The plan is set to attract development in the Morley area and newcomers will benefit from access to a new train station and shopping precincts.”
